You make your point like an ignorant asshole. Government isn’t there to protect people? What country do you live in? That is one of the main purposes of government – to protect its citizens.

Your callous and insensitive opinion would play real well with the victims of shark attacks, I am sure. Perhaps if you had spent any measure of time researching the situation instead of firing off unintelligible missives from the hip, your thoughts would actually have some value to the readers here.

Australia has implemented shark nets with some measure of success – why not do it here?

Are you dumb or ignorant? These people enter the water at their own risk. Government is not there to protect people from themselves. Sharks are thinning out the shallow end of the gene pool. I live here and know the risks of the ocean and I, as others should, take full responsibility if I choose to enter these waters.

Our editorial stance here is clear – something needs to be done to protect the beach-going citizens of New Smyrna Beach and Volusia County.

Would bear or mountain lion attacks of similar regularity garner equal amounts of indifference? I think not.
