FYI, after a little research, only 1 fatal attack attributed to great white south of Pt. conception and on the mainland- and it was in 1959….. please stick to facts and quit spreading fear based on heresay and rumours…sure there are plenty of blues and some makos- how about posting some of the marine biology reports on great white populations instead of ” I saw a 23ft great white near gaviota.” and peddle it as fact.

Well, Chris, since you haven’t been around Santa Barbara County for almost _ten_ years, and it has never happened to you personally, then it must not be real.

After all, we only run a shark attack news and information site, what would we know about it?

I grew up in SB County….30 something years there, 1970s through 2000. spent MANY days in the water surfing and many days on the water fishing, including out to the islands. I can NEVER recall a great white attack south of point conception. I NEVER saw any sign of great whites except out at the islands. There was one suspicion of an attack on a kayaker from SB in about 89 or 90, but he was out AT THE ISLANDS. This whole sighting thing is a farce.

I had a friend once tell me he was sitting in his truck on top of the cliff at Little Cojo bay and he saw a big shark lurking in the bay all alone. He said it was huge!

Thats huge! I had a friend also see about a 20 footer last spring. I guess this is where the big ones feed!..Someone needs to start taking there camera so we can really confirm it. Why are there no helicopter shots or fisherman getting photos or videos if there are so many seen? just dont take pics of the surf! lol

Went up on Sunday, found no shark. Not a thing. About 1/2 mile I sat on my boat off Gav….chum did not work either.

I will try again soon, before the season ends.

Where are you launching from and where are you going to find it?

I here the best way to see if the chum is working is to swim through several times after about 15 minutes or so. You could even try strapping some bait to your body. Good Luck.

Getting ready to go get me some shark, who’s comming with? Have my bate and ready for some chumming. I luanch in one hour.

No shark in history was ever recorded at 23ft, but I saw me a 19ft white, scarry as hell, off the coast of Gaviota. I was on my boat, only 11.5ft long. It kissed the side and swam away. I plan to go up this weekend and kill it.

It is not news that there was a great white shark spotted near Gaviota. They are there ALL THE TIME. IT IS NO JOKE.

The safest protecction from these sharks is to ride realy far back in the tube.

I heard KCOY 12 had a special segment on it last night. To think there are great white sharks actively patrolling the waters of Northern Santa Barbara County…scary stuff.

We are still trying to track down the original submitter for a full-length interview of the encounter west/ north of Gaviota.

There’s so many kooks in the water these days. A little bit of “survival of the fittest” may do some good.

This time of year is also when Great White Shark females are breeding, meaning they aggressively pursue meals for themselves and their young. They are also known to be vigilant defenders of their offspring, attacking potentially dangerous animals within a mile or more!

There have been rumors of sightings for months up there. You would have to be absolutely crazy (or reckless) to spend any time in the oceans waters off Northern Santa Barbara County.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe that’s the second that I’ve heard of this week. The man in the grey suit seems to be particularly active right now.
