A shark attack is an attack on a human by a shark. Every year countless attacks are reported worldwide. Many people fear shark attacks – and especially serial attacks, such as the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916, the Western Australia Attacks of 2014, and documentary films such as the Jaws series. Out of more than 480 shark species, an unknown number are responsible for tragic and unprovoked fatal attacks on humans: the great white, tiger and bull are particularly hungry – however, the oceanic whitetip has also killed many castaways.
